JAN KARLTON

Jan Karlton’s (1939-1997) vibrant work, often edged with dark humor, provokes and illuminates. Her untimely death left behind a legacy that’s only touched upon here. A soon-to-be released documentary (preview coming soon) was filmed and photographed by Jennifer Fey (interviewer, videographer, photographer, editor) with celebrity photographer Michael Collopy, and co-produced by the Branner Spangenberg Gallery with the cooperation of Jan Karlton’s son, David Karlton.

POEM BY JAN KARLTON

it was all between the lines anyway
childgirlwoman where to start
later i wrote my own lines
one letter then another some lost
but enough to spell
a life
